The Marketplace of Ideas
So Paul stood up in front of the Areopagus and said, “Men of Athens, I see that you are very religious in every way.” Acts 17:22 (ISV) As you can see from the above quotation, that the Apostle Paul went to where the men of Athens gathered for discussion on topics of importance in their ancient world. You can read further about what different kinds of people were there when he made this statement, and you can read further about his conclusions in the rest of the chapter.
The question that must be asked in our day is, “Where is the marketplace of ideas in the 21st century”? The new modern marketplace of ideas can be found on the internet at sites such as this one. Does that mean that this site will become a forum for debate. The answer is no. If you had read the “About the PCB” section (see the link to the side of this post) you would have discovered some things about the PCB, one of which is there can only be one leader. The PCB learned years ago from a very old and trusted friend, Dr. Richard Belcher (see the link on the side “Richbarry Press”), who is preparing to retire from teaching at Columbia International University that discussion is good, but unless there is someone in the group who actually provides leadership and knows what they are talking about the discussion is useless. Therefore, comments are not allowed on this site. You may contact us with thoughts and comments at the address provided. There are many places on the internet for discussions and comments about a variety of different subjects.
The next question that might come up is, “Will this be a site to only promote Religion or Christianity?”. The answer again is no. Everyone has a certain “world view” or “basic assumptions about life” or “philosphy” that they believe. We all use those presuppositions when we frame our thoughts and views. The PCB is unashamedly, unabashedly Christian, and being such, has a certain “worldview” that can not be hidden even if tried.
What is that “worldview” or “presupposition” one might ask? It is this. God exists! Francis Schaeffer who was a great Christian philosopher and thinker once wrote a book entitled, He Is There, and He Is Not Silent. What does that mean? It means that God exists, and He actively intervenes in the everyday lives of men and women. The second presupposition of the PCB is that God’s ultimate intervention in men’s lives was the death of His Son, Jesus Christ on the cross and Christ’s resurrection from the dead. The final presupposition of the PCB is that the final authority for everything in our “worldview” is The Bible. Does that mean that the PCB is anti Israel? Certainly not! The subject of the Christian’s relationship with Israel will be addressed in another post at some point in the future.
That will be the foundation for everything presented here. You cannot talk about MSM, politics, law, religion, science, culture, or life itself without this foundation.
And so the day begins.
