The Battle Is Joined

Hugh Hewitt has a great section on the battle heating up again in the Senate, with lots of links to all the supporting articles and documents. I am including just a small excerpt here to pique your interest to follow this link, and read further.

Here is the excerpt from Hugh Hewitt’s blog:

Yesterday Was A Very Big Day: Specter, Schumer, and the Coming Showdown: Vox Blogoli 2.2: Does the Senate GOP Go McClellan or Grant if Harry Reid “Goes Gingrich?”

“The Democratic leader, Harry Reid of Nevada, has said that if the Republicans made good on their threat and ruled filibusters out of order, he would see to it that Senate business came to a halt.”

Reid’s threat to “go Gingrich” is the greatest gift a Democrat has given the Republicans in many year. Shutting down the government, Harry? Because you don’t want majority voting on judicial nominees. Yes, that will work very well with the public.

It cannot be over emphasized how important the judicial appointments are for the future of our country. Many of these appointees will be appointed for life. If they are age fifty now, they could set the direction of the law for the next thirty or forty years.

It is quite obvious the Democrats have chosen to make the courts the venue by which to “legislate” their extremist agenda. They can’t win in the arena of ideas thereby getting elected, so they have gotten judges appointed during President Clinton’s administration and yes some from earlier Republican Presidents, who are judicial activists, and these activist judges, “legislate” from the bench.

This has gotten so out of hand, that for the first time in Senate history, the filibuster, (which dictionary.com defines as “The use of obstructionist tactics”), has been used as a means for blocking judicial nominees. This obstructionist tactic began during President Bush’s first term in office, and now looks like it will be the instrument of choice for the Democrats during his second term. This completely ignores the constitution which only calls for a simple majority of 51 votes to approve any judicial nominee. The Democrat extremists by their use of the filibuster has altered the constitution making 60 votes the requirement for a judicial nominee to get appointed.

It is past time for you to remind your Senators that they represent you, and not the extremist wing of the Democratic Party. Remind them once again of what happens to Democrat Senators who live in states that overwhelmingly voted for President Bush. They seem to have fogotten it already.

Perhaps they won’t be so quick to jump on the obstructionist bandwagon.

[…] So, what do we do? We have two choices, we can do as we have for the past 30 or forty years, which has been relatively nothing, or we can become active in the political processes of our country. Take an active role of communication with our elected officials, and as pointed out in our previous post, urge the senate to confirm President Bush’s nominees to the bench. Even if it means taking the “nuclear option” in the senate proceedings.
