The Terri Schiavo Ripple Effect

Thursday, March 31st, 2005

Terri Schiavo has passed away, but the events surrounding her passing will have ripple effects for years to come. Red State Rant quotes a familiar Scripture Passage as comfort here.

“Revelation 21:4
“He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”

Hugh Hewitt, has a roundup of several articles that are well worth reading. His roundup is entitled, An Outbreak of Religiousrightitis. Here are a couple of excerpts from his post.

He includes a quotation from Peggy Noonan’s Wall Street Opinion Journal article dated today, found here.

“Back to Noonan, who, when she is “on,” says things in ways that ought to be scratched into marble somewhere, like this:

“A great nation does not like to see an (Read the rest of the story below the fold...)

Our View On Life

Wednesday, March 30th, 2005

Here are a few links to spell out the diverse views on life and their consequenses in today’s society.

First, Lone Star Times has an article entitled, Margaret Sanger, Eugenecist. One may not catch the significance of this article on first glance. Here is an excerpt:

“Sanger promoted birth control as a means to reduce the population of “defectives, delinquents, dependents. These are the most devastating curse on human progress and expansion.” In this category fell the mentally retarded, the disabled, the poor, blacks, Jews, and eventually even Catholics. These groups of “human waste” were, in Sanger’s view, to face enforced sterilization and internment in concentration camps.”

Secondly, Radio Blogger has some information on another view of life. In an article entitled, Who is George Felos?, there are some passages from a book written by the attorney who represents Michael Schaivo. Here (Read the rest of the story below the fold...)

Right Or Wrong, What Is The Difference?

Tuesday, March 29th, 2005

David Limbaugh, in an article today entitled, Death Penalty Thrown Out Because Jury Discussed Scripture, which points to the CNN article entitled, Death sentence by jury that discussed Bible thrown out. Mr. Limbaugh’s comment makes a valid point. See below:

“Have you ever noticed the facility with which we ban the Bible and other things Christian? If this had been any other book — including, I dare say, holy books of other religions — I am very doubtful that we’d see a reversal in this case.”

The CNN story, makes this point:

“Jay Horowitz, a former assistant U.S. attorney and former University of Denver law professor, said the law bars jurors from considering evidence not presented at trial.

But he noted it was unreasonable to expect them to set aside moral standards when they step into a jury room, though there must be limits. (Read the rest of the story below the fold...)

Who Is Grandstanding?

Monday, March 28th, 2005

There has been much criticism of President Bush and Congressional Republicans during the last week concerning the emergency session, and subsequent measure passed to help save the life of Terri Schiavo. Most of the criticism concerned the issue of Federalism, and States Rights, and whether the Federal Government and the Bush Administration had over-stepped. We have seen poll information cited as authoritative, to back these claims, and how the Republicans and Bush were going to pay a political price for their alleged “grandstanding”.

First of all, most of the poll questions of last week on the Schiavo issue have been suspect, thus providing bogus results.

Secondly, It was not only Republicans, but a large number of Democrats who participated in the emergency legislation.

John Fund writes in the Wall Street Opinion Journal Online, a “barn burner” of an article entitled, Selective Restraint, Liberals cheered when Janet (Read the rest of the story below the fold...)

He Is Risen!

Sunday, March 27th, 2005

He Is Risen Indeed!

Christ the Lord is risen today, conquering death, and giving us hope for a life beyond the grave. Hallelujah!

The poet and Minister of the Gospel, Charles Wesley has written:

“Christ, the Lord, is risen today, Alleluia!
Sons of men and angels say, Alleluia!
Raise your joys and triumphs high, Alleluia!
Sing, ye heavens, and earth, reply, Alleluia!

Love’s redeeming work is done, Alleluia!
Fought the fight, the battle won, Alleluia!
Lo! the Sun’s eclipse is over, Alleluia!
Lo! He sets in blood no more, Alleluia!

Vain the stone, the watch, the seal, Alleluia!
Christ hath burst the gates of hell, Alleluia!
Death in vain forbids His rise, Alleluia!
Christ hath opened paradise, Alleluia!

Lives again our glorious King, Alleluia!
Where, O death, is now thy sting? Alleluia!
Once He died our souls to save, Alleluia!
Where thy victory, O grave? Alleluia!

Soar we now where Christ hath led, Alleluia!
Following our exalted Head, Alleluia!
Made like Him, like Him we rise, Alleluia!
Ours the cross, the grave, the skies, Alleluia!

Hail, the Lord of earth and heaven, Alleluia!
Praise to Thee by both be given, Alleluia!
Thee we greet triumphant now, Alleluia!
Hail, the resurrection day, Alleluia!

King of glory, Soul of bliss, Alleluia!
Everlasting life is this, Alleluia!
Thee to know, Thy power to prove, Alleluia!
Thus to sing and thus to love, Alleluia!”

Reflections

Saturday, March 26th, 2005

Red State Rant has a great article on the waning hours of Terri Schiavo’s life, asking the question, Moving On? His final statement says it all, “Some of us will move on. But not all.”

Powerline, has the complete roundup on Terri Schiavo in an article entitled, Conduct unbecoming, that is well worth reading.

It Is Finished

Friday, March 25th, 2005

Tetelestai, is a transliteration of the Greek word used by Jesus as he hung on the cross dying. “It is finished” (John 19:30 ASV), and the same word used in verse 28, “all things were now accomplished,” are some of the most wonderful words ever composed in human language. Past perfect indicative is the form of the Greek verb above, which according to Kenneth Wuest, refers to “His work of procuring for lost sinners a salvation from sin through the blood of His Cross. The entire sense is, ‘It was finished and as a result it is forever done.”

In the grand splendor of God’s great plan for mankind, there are much larger implications in that one simple word tetelastai. The wheels had been set in motion to finally crush the serpent’s head from so long ago in the garden of Eden. From this point forward in all of human (Read the rest of the story below the fold...)

What Is the Cost?

Thursday, March 24th, 2005

Red State Rant, writes today concerning Terry’s fight and the cost of the battle. In the course of the article, there is a reflection on the effects of this struggle between the left and the right on the issue of life.

The writer indicates the right may have gallantly fought the battle, but may have lost the war. The only argument concerning the right possibly losing the war, is the agreement with the statement made by Hugh Hewitt on Tuesday,

“Several voices have been raised against the action of the president and the Congress, and bogus opinion polls circulated. Fine. Anyone who wants to run for office on the basis of that position is welcome to do so.”

The article’s last sentence makes the whole point, as quoted below.

“Then again, maybe as a wise sage (Hoss) told me, this isnt so much about saving Terry or the unborn but saving a judiciary that has failed us all.”

Public Service Information

Wednesday, March 23rd, 2005

Red State, offers a A RedState Public Service Message today, written by Erick, that offers some very good advice. In his article he has some links for a Living Will, and a Durable Health Care Power of Attorney in the State of Georgia. The article is well worth your time to read. Here is just an excerpt:

“I have done many living wills for doctors and all of them direct through their living wills that, should they be in a vegetative state, they want food withheld, but never water. All have told me that you’ll die without food, but withholding water, as is being done in the Schiavo case, is gruesome to see.”

For those wanting to use the links to documents for Georgia, click on the title above. Included here is a link to a Durable Health Care Power of Attorney for the State of Missouri.

It is everyone’s plan to make some arrangement for their future, but few follow through on the plan.

Unfortunately, the same is true of the plan for where to spend eternity.

Sickened

Tuesday, March 22nd, 2005

What has our society come to? What has our judiciary come to?

These questions will haunt many for some time to come. We have found three different posts that provide further information on the Terri Schiavo case that is captivating the nation.

Hugh Hewitt, has written 2 posts on this issue. The first entitiled, Endangered Vegetables Get More Protections Than Terri Schiavo. Excerpts are here:

“On such category of special cases is the case where harm is alleged to be imminent to an endangered plant or animal, like the Riverside Fairy Shrimp, the Delhi Sands Flower-loving fly, the Stephens Kangaroo rat, or, yes, Munz’s Onion –a genuine vegetable as opposed to the horrific term that has been thrown around in this case.”

More On Being Stung

Monday, March 21st, 2005

John Fund of the Wall Street Opinion Journal, has picked up on the story first broke in the New York Post, last Thursday which we posted on here. In his followup story entitled, Astroturf Politics, How liberal foundations fooled Congress into passing McCain-Feingold, he further develops and elaborates on the hi-jacking of the US Congress and the general public concerning campaign finance reform. The entire article can be read at the link above. The following is an excerpt of Mr. Fund’s article:

“The successful stealth campaign by the eight liberal foundations means we now have to live in the Brave New World of McCain-Feingold. Bradley Smith, a Federal Election Commission member, made news this month by warning that bloggers could face federal regulation because a federal judge had thrown out their legal exemption from campaign finance regulations. The Internet has been (Read the rest of the story below the fold...)

Runaway Judiciary

Sunday, March 20th, 2005

We have not yet posted on the extraordinary measures being implemented to save the life of Terri Schiavo. Currently the US Senate, and US House of Representatives are in the process of passing a bill to force the case to be reviewed by a Federal Appeals Court.

We have found the article written by the Horse Race Blogger to be thoughtful, insightful, and covers the arguments fully here. The article entitled, The Schiavo Case and the Red-Herring of Judicial Supremacy, does a very thorough job of refuting the argument that Congress should not be involved. It is his contention, that the legislative branch has the power, and should exercise that power to over rule the judicial branch in this instance. Here is a small excerpt which should pique your interest in reading the entire article:

“You may not like any of this. You may not (Read the rest of the story below the fold...)

Discovery of Truth

Sunday, March 20th, 2005

What is truth?

Truth has had many faces put on it in the past. The problem arises in discovering real truth. How does one go about finding the truth concerning any subject, and how can we be certain what we have found is real?

Truth, concerning the two major topics on everyone’s mind these days is political truth, and religious truth. After all, one nescessarily follows the other. If one has a liberal viewpoint concerning religion, that individual will, more often than not, have a liberal viewpoint concerning politics. By the same token, one who holds a conservative view of religion, will as well hold a conservative viewpoint on politics. There are occasions however, when one is inconsistent and holds a conservative veiwpoint on one and a liberal viewpoint on the other.

As to the first question, how do we go about finding the truth? Many people hold the (Read the rest of the story below the fold...)

Some Respite

Saturday, March 19th, 2005

Captain Ed, of Captain’s Quarters Blog wrote yesterday, Bloggers Have Been Heard, in which he gives Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) praise for introducing a bill that would exempt “Internet communications from FEC regulation altogether:”

“Paragraph 22 of section 301 of the Federal Election Campaign Act of 1971 (2 U.S.C. 431(22)) is amended by adding at the end the following new sentence: “Such term shall not include communications over the Internet.”

We add our thanks to Senator Reid for his action, and hope the bill is passed and signed into law. We would further suggest, that the BCRA (Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act – McCain-Feingold) of 2002 be repealed altogether in light of how it was brought into being, and the corruption behind it, as we posted here, yesterday.

Please read Captain Ed’s entire post, linked above, and we add our thanks to him, for helping lead the charge against FEC regulation of Blogs.

We Have Been Stung

Friday, March 18th, 2005

If you remember the movie, The Sting from a few years ago, you will know how it feels to have the wool pulled over your eyes. That is exactly what has happened to the American people concerning campaign finance reform. The truth has finally come out.

Real Clear Politics yesterday pointed to an article by Ryan Sager in yesterday’s New York Post, entitled, Buying ‘Reform’. You simply must read the entire article to be fully informed.

Mr. Sager, has a tape “”of a conference held at USC’s Annenberg School for Communication in March of 2004”” in which “Sean Treglia, a former program officer of the Pew Charitable Trusts” has confessed to the scam.

As Mr. Sager outlines, “The Story in Brief” from the tape:

“Charged with promoting campaign-finance reform when he joined Pew in the mid-1990s, Treglia came up with a three-pronged strategy: (Read the rest of the story below the fold...)
