Money Is The Key
It would be impossible to describe the outrage we feel towards Republican Senator John McCain of Arizona after his statement on Hardball with Chris Matthews last night. The transcript can be found on Radio Blogger, here. This is Senator McCain’s statement:
“CM: But bottom line, would you vote with the people that are for what’s called the nuclear option, to get rid of the filibuster rule on judgeships?
JM: No, I will not.
CM: You’ll stick with the party then.
JM: Oh, I will vote against the nuclear option. Against the nuclear option.
CM: You will. So you’ll vote with the Democrats?
JM: Yes.”
It is clear from this statement, Senator McCain has finally made his decision to align himself once more with the Democrats and their unconstitutional use of the filibuster against judicial nominees.
It is our contention that Senator McCain feels more important when he openly opposes his party, thereby holding them hostage. He loves the limelight of the adoring MSM. He frequently appears on television with Tim Russert, and Chris Matthews. We wonder if he would appear as often on these programs if he were finally forced to change over to the party of his clear choice. One must ask why Senator McCain has continuously refused to switch political parties. He votes as much or more with the Democrats as he does the Republicans, yet he refuses to make the switch.
The answer of course is, if he switches, he no longer has the status of a maverick Republican who is frequently critical of his party leader, President Bush, and his Senate leadership. He then becomes just another whining Democrat.
So we believe the key to neutralizing Senator McCain is money, or the lack thereof. Money donated to the National Republican Senate Committee who receives the money, and divides it up for election campaigns of Republican Senators. The NRSC can be contacted via USPS here,

We are proposing an open letter to the NRSC threatening to withhold all donations for Republican Senators unless the NRSC openly and publicly refuses to support Senator McCain and any other Republican Senator who votes against the nuclear/constitutional/Byrd option on judicial nominee filibustering.
We agree with the former McCain supporter from Arizona, whose E-Mail is quoted on Hugh Hewitt’s site, here. This is some of what he had to say:
” This, to me, is the final straw. I worked hard to help get President
Bush re-elected. After the War on Terror (which I believe also
includes Defending our Border (Article III, Section 4 “protect against
invasion”), there is no more important issue than the totally out of
control Judiciary. Legislating from the bench is not listed as a
Constitutional Power bestowed upon these un-checked, lifetime
appointees, yet that is exactly what they are doing.Your snubbing of your Leader of the Senate (Senator Bill Frist), your
Leader of your Party (President Bush) and the Constitution of the
United States (again), while embracing the obstructionist Democrats
(again) has caused me to lose all remaining respect I had for you as
my Senator. From this day forward, I will begin to actively campaign against you.
In any capacity I possibly can. I will first work to defeat you in
your primary and I will subsequently work (if necessary) to defeat you
in the general by supporting whatever Democrat runs against you. I
have never in my life supported a Democrat, but at least I know my
enemy with a Democrat.”
This is what it boils down to. We are the grassroots conservatives of the Republican Party. Without our support, Republicans will lose all they have gained. If the issues which are important to conservatives mean nothing to those Republicans who snub their nose at us, we have no alternative but to withhold support, financial and otherwise.
We need to force Senator McCain and others like him to change their party affiliation in order that we might support and elect real Republicans from their states. It is that, or lose the monetary support you want and need so badly.
Update: Captain Ed over at Captain’s Quarters Blog seems to agree concerning withholding fund, but even goes further in his post, Not One Dime. His article is a must read!
