Read The Directions
So often we travel through life just drifting, flowing with the wind wherever it blows. We then reach a point where we ask ourselves why are we here? Who am I?. What am I supposed to do with my life? What is my purpose?
Did you ever buy a new car and actually read the owner’s manual? Did you ever buy a new TV and read the user’s manual? How about a computer? Did you ever read the manual that comes with a computer?
You would be amazed at the amount of information contained in the manuals mentioned above. If you want to know how to set the radio properly in your car, look it up in the owner’s manual. If you want to know how to hook up your TV to your surround sound system, just look it up in the user’s manual.
We remember a story that our good friend Dr. Richard Belcher used to tell about a family who moved here from another country where they didn’t play much sports. The son’s birthday was coming around and the Mother decided to buy him a ball as his present. On the morning of his birthday, the young man opened his present and discovered a funny looking type ball inside. He had been watching his frineds play sports, and took it to the park where he tried to bounce it on the ground like a basketball. The ball just floomph-floomphed away. Next he tried hitting it with a tennis racket, (whack), but the racket broke. He then tried to hit the ball with a bat, and again the ball just floomph-floomphed away.
He finally walked home sadly disappointed with his present because he couldn’t find any use for it. When he arrived home looking very sad, his mother suggested that he read the instructions which the creator had included with the ball. After reading for just a short while the young man discovered that what he possesed was a football. It wasn’t supposed to roll straight, it was supposed to bounce funny and it was perfectly made to fit under the arm as it was carried down the field to make a touchdown.
From that moment on he was extremely happy with his new present because he had a purpose for it.
We are much the same way. When we are feeling down, and have no purpose for our lives, we reach for the wrong instructions. We reach for self help books. We reach for psychological answers. We look everywhere for answers never to find them. We only need to read the instruction manual which our Creator has provided for us.
The instruction manual for mankind is called the Bible. In it’s pages we can find all the answers we need for our lives. We can find the purpose for which we were created. Then finally we can have peace with ourselves and with God, which will make us like the young man above, extremely happy.
“Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.” (Psalm 119:105 KJV)
Give it a try! Just read the manual. You will be amazed by the information provided in the Owner’s manual which God has given us.
