The Right Man At The Right Time

Monday, August 1st, 2005

As we have posted before, both here and here, John Bolton it the right man at the right time to bring some much needed shakeup at the United Nations. With so much corruption and scandal at the UN, we need a man with the character, strength, and stamina to represent the United States as our Ambassador.

The Senate failed in their Constitutional duty to confirm this great nominee by the unconstitutional use of the filibuster, President Bush had no alternative but to appoint John Bolton via his Constitutional use of the recess appointment. (HT to Red State.)

Here are the President’s remarks today in making the appointment:

“This post is too important to leave vacant any longer, especially during a war and a vital debate about U.N. reform. So today I’ve used my constitutional authority to appoint John Bolton to serve as America’s ambassador to the United Nations,

I am sending John to the U.N. with my complete confidence … His mission now is to speak for me on critical issues facing the international community. And he’ll make it clear that America values the potential of the United Nations to be a source of hope and dignity and peace,…”

We congratulate Mr. Bolton, and we support President Bush in the use of his Constitutional authority to make the appointment.

Young Conservative Journalists

Tuesday, August 2nd, 2005

Our thanks to Powerline for the heads up on this story.

Scott Johnson of Powerline, LaShawn Barber of LaShawn Barber’s Corner, and Mark Tapscott of Tapscott’s Copy Desk spoke as a blog panel for the National Conservative Student Conference for College Students in Wasington, DC. yesterday. The accounts of the program can be found by reading, A Fine Time at Young America’s Foundation Panel on Blogs, and from The Political Teen, Scott Johnson, La Shawn Barber, and Mark Tapscott Speak at YAF Conference, complete with video of their speeches.

What we find remarkable in this story, is that along with a fantastic conference, comes a wealth of information, sources, and organizations for young conservatives.

The Young America’s Foundation is an organization founded to promote former President Ronald Reagan’s vision of conservatism. The organization has (Read the rest of the story below the fold...)

Roberts’ Reply

Wednesday, August 3rd, 2005

Judge John Roberts has filed his reply to the Senate Judiciary’s lengthy questionaire. You can download and read them from the Center For Individual Freedom.

The following is an excerpt from his reply as quoted on the above site:

“It is difficult to comment on either “judicial activism” or “judicial restraint” in the abstract, without reference to the particular facts and applicable law of a specific case. On the one hand, courts should not intrude into areas of policy making reserved by the Constitution to the political branches. As Justice Frankfurter has noted, “Courts are not representative bodies. They are not designed to be a good reflex of a democratic society.” In our democratic system, responsibility for policy making properly rests with those branches that are responsible and responsive to the people. It was precisely because the Framers intended the judiciary to be insulated from popular political pressures (Read the rest of the story below the fold...)

Playing While Rome Burns Again

Thursday, August 4th, 2005

What you are about to read is the consequense of a society that has lost it’s way in morality and ethics.

We are encouraged by the Main Stream Media that we need to be more enlightened in determining our behavior in our society. We are told that we need to emulate the great European cultures of France and Germany, and to not be so concerned with morality and ethics as a people. The enlightened societies of the world have a tendency to look at the United States as being intolerant and socially behind the times because of our Judeo-Christian heritage.

CNN has a story today, Specialist: Keeping fetuses may be widespread, which illustrates just how enlightened society in France has become. Here is a segment:

“Investigators probing the shocking discovery of hundreds of fetuses and stillborn babies stored in a Paris hospital morgue are likely (Read the rest of the story below the fold...)

Saturday Evening Judicial Reiew Post #18

Saturday, August 6th, 2005

In keeping with the flow of following Mark R. Levin’s Book, Men In Black which can be purchased on the link to your left, we will pursue the subject of a Tale of Two Courts. In Mr. Levin’s book, he has an entire chapter called “The Court Counts The Ballots” discussing at great length the chronology of events surrounding the Presidential Election of 2000. We have found this chapter to be illuminating and fascinating as we relived once again the history of events surrounding that election.

What we experienced during that month long time of intense emotion and agony was caused by the ultimate exercise in Judicial Activism first by the Florida State Supreme Court, and finally by the United States Supreme Court. The courts made their rulings based as a result of a lawsuit filed on behalf of presidential candidate Al Gore who initiated the first (Read the rest of the story below the fold...)

A Possible Crack

Monday, August 8th, 2005

Is there a possible crack forming in Senator Clinton’s support from her newly acquired home state of New York?

The Washing Post, is running an AP story, Pirro Will Challenge Clinton for New York Senate seat in the 2006 election.

Finally, the people of New York are getting tired of Hillary using their Senate seat for nothing more than a springboard for her political ambitions. Here is a portion:

“ALBANY, N.Y. — Jeanine Pirro, a high-profile prosecutor from the New York City area, said Monday she will seek the Republican nomination to challenge Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton in her bid for re-election next year.

“I am running against Hillary Clinton because New York state deserves a senator who will give her all to the people of New York for a full term, who will not miss votes to campaign in (presidential) primaries,” Pirro said in a statement.

“When Mrs. Clinton first came to us and said she wanted to be a New Yorker, she asked New York to put out a welcome mat and we did,” the Westchester County district attorney added. “But now she wants us to re-elect her even though she won’t promise to serve out her term and wants to use us as a springboard to the presidency. She’s asking us to become her doormat. I believe we deserve better.”

We wish you success Ms. Pirro!

Specter Goes RINO

Tuesday, August 9th, 2005

Chariman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, Arlen Specter has definitively gone into the Republican In Name Only category or RINO for short. Conservatives have long suspected that such was the case as evidenced by the huge outcry over his blunder following the 2004 election when he thumbed his nose at President Bush during his victory statement. See this Fox News Story, dated November 5, 2004. The statement came very close to costing the Senator his chairmanship then, and it is evident that it should have.

Senator Specter has once again joined ranks with the Democrats as related by the New York Times, in this story, Panel Chairman to Press Roberts on Cases. (registration required) The following is what he had to say today:

“In a three-page letter to Judge Roberts, Mr. Specter raises pointed questions about two recent court decisions invalidating legislation Congress passed (Read the rest of the story below the fold...)

NARAL Nespotic Nihilism

Wednesday, August 10th, 2005

NARAL’s latest attempt to smear Judge John Roberts and to deceive the public about his stance on violence is demonstrated for us in their despicable lie being put forth in a television ad will not succeed. The following are just a few of the links to articles in print, and on the blogosphere which have exposed the lie, and are linked here for you to peruse.

Radio Blogger describes how CNN takes money to run a complete lie of a commercial spot. Generalissimo speaks his mind:

“Go back to a week ago, when conservative musk ox Bob Novak walked off the Inside Politics set after saying B.S. on the air. He was suspended by CNN for his profanity. I put it to you. What is worse? Saying B.S., or taking money to run a special interest hit piece that everyone knows is B.S?”

New Movies You Will Definitely Want To Miss

Thursday, August 11th, 2005

Guest columnist Jason Apuzzo writing for Town Hall yesterday, (HT to Power Line) describes for us, Hollywood’s New War Effort: Terrorism Chic. This is a portion:

“Slow to awaken after the 9/11 attacks, Hollywood has finally come around to contributing what it can in the War on Terror: namely, glossy, star-studded movies that sympathize with the enemy. (emphasis mine)

Hard to believe? Here’s the pitch: with box-office numbers trending down, studio executives are suddenly greenlighting movies they can describe to shareholders as ‘controversial’ or ‘timely.’ Whether the films are anti-American or otherwise demoralizing to the war effort is apparently immaterial. Its appetite whetted by “Fahrenheit 9/11″’s $222 million worldwide gross, Hollywood thinks it’s found a formula for both financial security and critical plaudits: noxious anti-American storylines, bathed in the warm glow of star power.”

The following are the films he lists which are (Read the rest of the story below the fold...)

It Must Be A Slow News Month

Friday, August 12th, 2005

It must be a slow news month for the story of Cindy Sheehan to attract so much MSM coverage . Of course they have an agenda in doing so. They can kill two birds with one stone. They can pro-long a story complete with anti-Bush, anti-administration, and anti-war rhetoric, while at the same time give touchy-feely emotionalism to a grieving mother.

We were not even going to mention this story, because we believe Cindy Sheehan to have become disingenuous about her son’s death in Iraq. She has become a poster child for the left, and she likes it.

Erick over at Red State sums up our view of this story just about right in his piece, Cindy Sheehan Enters Stage Right. Here is his opening paragraph:

“Cindy Sheehan’s son was killed in Iraq. She’s a grieving mother. Last year, the President met with Mrs. Sheehan, comforted her, and grieved with her. At the time, Mrs. Sheehan thought the President had done well and appreciated him. Enter August, no major news, and a media still smarting over the President’s re-election despite everything they threw at him. Cindy Sheehan returns entering stage right — this time a left wing media whore in the form of a grieving mother.”

We couldn’t have said it better. Read the whole article.

By his actions, Casey Sheehan’s death has spoken volumes more than his Mother will ever say. His dying for the cause of freedom and in the service of his coutry will have an impact long after his Mother’s 15 minutes of fame are forgotten.

Why MSM Can’t Sell It

Monday, August 15th, 2005

With an increasing number of activists gathering outside the President’s ranch in Crawford, Texas, the left and it’s Main Stream Media allies still can’t sell the anti-war, anti-administration, and anti-Bush agenda. They have their gift of Cindy Sheehan posing as the grieving mother demanding another audience with the President, they have the media camped out literally, and camping out on this story, but it hasn’t moved ordinary people from their position on the war.

We think it might be worth standing in the President’s shoes for a while, and look at it through his eyes in this piece from the August 22nd issue of Newsweek. Read for yourself, the President’s side of grieving (HT to Trevino at Red State):

“The grieving room was arranged like a doctor’s office. The families and loved ones of 33 soldiers killed in Iraq or Afghanistan were summoned to a large (Read the rest of the story below the fold...)

Democrats Concede John Roberts Nomination

Tuesday, August 16th, 2005

The Washington Post reports today that Democrats concede the nomination of Judge John Roberts to the United States Supreme Court. In their article, Roberts Unlikely To Face Big Fight they report the following:

“Democrats have decided that unless there is an unexpected development in the weeks ahead, they will not launch a major fight to block the Supreme Court nomination of John G. Roberts Jr., according to legislators, Senate aides and party strategists.

In a series of interviews in recent days, more than a dozen Democratic senators and aides who are intimately involved in deliberations about strategy said that they see no evidence that most Democratic senators are prepared to expend political capital in what is widely seen as a futile effort to derail the nomination.

Although they expect to subject President Bush’s nominee to tough questioning at confirmation hearings next month, members of the minority (Read the rest of the story below the fold...)

It Was A Plant

Wednesday, August 17th, 2005

The Washington Post story we related here yesterday, has all the earmarks of being a plant.

We believe the article was published on purpose to stir up the liberal fringe base of the Democratic Party. The response was swift and certain. The Washington Post has published another article today which reveals just how tight the leash is on Democrat members of the Senate Judiciary Committee. Today’s article, Democrats Feel Heat From Left On Roberts , exposes a different Leahy and Kennedy than was referenced yesterday. Here is a portion:

“The response was quick and pointed, as two key senators unleashed their sharpest criticisms yet of Roberts and sought to assure activists that the battle is far from over.

Sen. Patrick J. Leahy of Vermont, the Judiciary Committee’s ranking Democrat, said in a statement: “Those papers that we have received paint a picture (Read the rest of the story below the fold...)

Much To Be Thankful For

Thursday, August 18th, 2005

If you don’t know what that means or would like to know, you may read here, which relates the story of John Newton, who authored “Amazing Grace”.

We are thankful for God’s grace, and mercy that He should save a sinner like me.

The Ones To Watch In 2008

Thursday, August 18th, 2005

Dan Patrick of KSEV 700 talk radio in Houston guest hosted the Laura Ingraham show this morning. During the course of the show, he made a prediciton concerning the 2008 Presidental election.

His prediction is that we would see Senator Hillary Clinton as the Democrat nominee, and she would be running against former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich as the Republican nominee. If his prediction holds true, it would certainly put a little excitement into the race.

Newt Gingrich besides being a former Congressman from Georgia’s Sixth District, was also the former Speaker of the House of Representatives. He has a great mind, is a gifted speaker, and a great author. His latest book, Winning The Future: A 21st Century Contract with America, is about the “five threats that could undermine, if not eliminate, the United States if immediate steps are not taken to correct them”.

Dan Patrick is also author of The Second Most Important Book You Will Ever Read.

Just a thought to toss around for 2008.

Double Smackdown On Cindy Sheehan

Friday, August 19th, 2005

Cindy Sheehan, the grieving nut case camped out near President Bush’s ranch in Crawford, Texas has received a double smackdown today from two of the greats.

First, from Ann Coulter comes, Cindy Sheehan: Commander In Grief, where Ann makes the following case:

“To expiate the pain of losing her firstborn son in the Iraq war, Cindy Sheehan decided to cheer herself up by engaging in Stalinist agitprop outside President Bush’s Crawford ranch. It’s the strangest method of grieving I’ve seen since Paul Wellstone’s funeral. Someone needs to teach these liberals how to mourn.

Call me old-fashioned, but a grief-stricken war mother shouldn’t have her own full-time PR flack. After your third profile on “Entertainment Tonight,” you’re no longer a grieving mom; you’re a C-list celebrity trolling for a book deal or a reality show.

We’re sorry about Ms. Sheehan’s son, but the entire nation was attacked (Read the rest of the story below the fold...)

Democrats At A Loss

Monday, August 22nd, 2005

Democrats are at a loss again in trying to determine how to approach Judge John Roberts’ Senate Judiciary hearings which begin in two weeks.

The New York Times reports in a piece by David D. Kirkpatrick entitled, Senate Democrats Are Split on Tactics for Questioning Roberts (registration required) on the struggle in the Senate Democrat caucus. Here is the dilemma they are facing according to this article:

“Officials of the groups have warned Democrats that if Judge Roberts becomes a Supreme Court vote against their causes - for example, in a New Hampshire abortion rights case expected to be decided before the 2006 elections - they will hold accountable any senator who votes to confirm him. “I think it is a big problem for pro-choice senators if they vote to confirm Judge Roberts and he votes to uphold the New Hampshire law,” said Kate Michelman, (Read the rest of the story below the fold...)

The Counter Sheehan Caravan

Tuesday, August 23rd, 2005

A caravan organized in the San Francisco Bay area has toured through California and is on it’s way to Crawford, Texas. The organizers will offer a counter demonstration to Cindy Sheehan’s anti-bush, anti-administration, anti-war tirade which has been going on since August 6th.

The full account can be found in this AP story, Bush Backers Amass to Counter ‘Peace Mom’. Here are some of the statements from Bush backing, pro-war parents:

“It’s time to lay down the anger. We need to continue to uphold those people over there, to uphold those men and women with their boots on the ground,” said Deborah Johns of the Northern California Marine Moms, who helped organize the caravan, which is sponsored by Move America Forward, a Bay Area-based group…

In Vacaville, Toni Colip, 50, said her son, David, went to high school with Casey Sheehan and is now in the Marines, although not in Iraq. She said her son opposes Sheehan’s activities and has asked her to support his military service even if he is injured or killed.

“He said, ‘Don’t dishonor me, don’t walk on my grave,’” Colip said…

“This is not the way to honor her son,” said Lori Judy, 49, of Vacaville, whose son, Tim, served in Iraq.”

It will be interesting to see if the Main Stream Media give this caravan as much attention as they have Sheehan’s debacle.

Adults Sometimes Have To Be Adults

Wednesday, August 24th, 2005

The American Thinker, has written one of the most profound counter arguments against Cindy Sheehan and the “Pacifrauds” we have read thus far.

His article, Cindy and the Pacifrauds makes a compelling parallel between the known pacifists of the past century and the current proponents of “peace” today. He correctly associates Ms. Sheehan and her supporters with the so-called pacifists who are held up as liberal icons for peace. Read the following:

“Honest pacifists are rare. After all, to be an honest pacifist one must be either a saint, or in deep denial of the world as it is. Take the two most celebrated pacifists of the last century, Albert Einstein and Mahatma Gandhi. No doubt Einstein and Gandhi wanted peace. So do we all. But it was Einstein who told FDR about the atom bomb, and thereby set into motion the annihilation of (Read the rest of the story below the fold...)

A Move Toward Democracy

Thursday, August 25th, 2005

The Wall Street Opinion Journal has a great editorial outlining the positive points of the Iraq’s new draft Constitution which should be approved sometime later today. In their article, Iraq’s Federalist Papers , they wrote the following:

“As for the unambiguously good news, there is both federalism and the oil-sharing formula. The draft constitution describes Iraq as “a democratic, federal, republican system”–an organizational structure that should be familiar to Americans. Some Sunni representatives have objected strongly, saying a federal structure risks the dissolution of the Iraqi state. But the reality is that federalism in one form or another was inevitable long before the constitutional talks began.

The Kurds, for starters, are not about to give up the autonomy they have enjoyed since the mid-’90s under cover of no fly zones (and would themselves dissolve the Iraqi state by secession were concessions on this matter not granted). (Read the rest of the story below the fold...)

Patience Please

Friday, August 26th, 2005

We would encourage everyone to have a little patience concerning the Constitution process in Iraq. Many among the MSM would have us believe the entire process is decaying and Iraq will soon erupt into civil war. We would hope that such would not be the case.

If you want to know what is really happening in Iraq, Michael Yon: Online Magazine is a must read. His article, Gates of Fire, is the story of America’s bravest and finest, being reported on by a brave and fine man to counter all the misinformation we receive on a daily basis.

Saturday Evening Judicial Reiew Post #19

Saturday, August 27th, 2005

As we continue with our discussion of the 2000 election and the results of court intervention at both the state and federal level, there are some questions that should be answered.

The first question is, “Was President Bush legally elected by the people, including the people of Florida”? The answer is yes. An event happened on November 26, 2000 which sealed the election. According to both the Florida State Constitution and the US Constitution nothing further needed or could be done. The following is what Mark R. Levin says in his book, Men In Black concerning this event:

“On November 26, the deadline set by the Florida Supreme Court passed. Harris’s submission to Governor Jeb Bush was consistent with the Florida Supreme Court’s decision of November 21. Harris was legally obligated to certify the results of the popular vote and submit those results to Governor Bush, which she did. Bush (Read the rest of the story below the fold...)
