Young Conservative Journalists
Our thanks to Powerline for the heads up on this story.
Scott Johnson of Powerline, LaShawn Barber of LaShawn Barber’s Corner, and Mark Tapscott of Tapscott’s Copy Desk spoke as a blog panel for the National Conservative Student Conference for College Students in Wasington, DC. yesterday. The accounts of the program can be found by reading, A Fine Time at Young America’s Foundation Panel on Blogs, and from The Political Teen, Scott Johnson, La Shawn Barber, and Mark Tapscott Speak at YAF Conference, complete with video of their speeches.
What we find remarkable in this story, is that along with a fantastic conference, comes a wealth of information, sources, and organizations for young conservatives.
The Young America’s Foundation is an organization founded to promote former President Ronald Reagan’s vision of conservatism. The organization has the following as part of their mission statement:
“Young America’s Foundation is committed to the Reagan legacy and to educating future generations in its principles. To fulfill this mission the Foundation is proud to announce the Presidential Leadership Program. This bold new national program is dedicated to fostering the virtues of individual freedom, limited government, patriotism, and traditional values to future generations of Americans.
The centerpiece of this exciting new dimension of Young America’s Foundation will be the Reagan Ranch in Santa Barbara. Rancho del Cielo, as the Reagans called this beautiful property, was acquired by Young America’s Foundation in the spring of 1998 to preserve as an historic site.”
Not only did we find the information about the Young America’s Foundation, but Powerline’s article above linked to the moderator of the above blog panel, Alex Mooney of the National Journalism Center, which is affiliated with the Young America’s Foundation. The National Journalism Center provides an Internship program for aspiring journalists, complete with job placement and an incredible track record of placement. They also have a scholarship program to help young journalists get excellent practical experience. Read the following from their program:
“The National Journalism Center, which offers training in the skills of media work within the context of a free society, is currently accepting applications for its journalism internship program. The NJC provides practical experience in researching, writing and editing, plus outside assignments with established journalists in the Washington, D.C. region.
Scholarships are available to students from selected central and southwestern states.”
When you include Patrick Henry College, which we wrote about here, one can see that young conservatives have numerous sources for higher education, and a bright future in the area of journalism. Young conservatives also have organizations they can join for support while living and studying on a politically correct college campus.
