Patience Please
We would encourage everyone to have a little patience concerning the Constitution process in Iraq. Many among the MSM would have us believe the entire process is decaying and Iraq will soon erupt into civil war. We would hope that such would not be the case.
If you want to know what is really happening in Iraq, Michael Yon: Online Magazine is a must read. His article, Gates of Fire, is the story of America’s bravest and finest, being reported on by a brave and fine man to counter all the misinformation we receive on a daily basis.
Hugh Hewitt writes in, Michael Yon and the Duties of Civilians, the following:
“Because courage is the most hypnotic of virtues, and Yon is a courageous man reporting on the deeds of other courageous men. I quote Thucydides in my review of The Great Raid, but it serves here as well:
“The secret to happiness is freedom and the secret to freedom is courage.”
We know that. Everyone knows that. But it is only rare occasions on which we acknowledge it.”
Read Mr. Hewitt’s article above to get the blogoshpere’s reaction to Michael Yon’s reporting and Hugh’s commentary.
For those who don’t have the patience we encouraged above, perhaps you should re-read the history of our own revolution and Constitution process. The timeline can be found here. According to this timeline, the process from the First Continental Congress September 5, 1774, until ratification of the Bill of Rights December 15, 1791, took a little over seventeen years. Some of these years were filled with terrible bloody fighting to win our independence from King George.
By contrast the story of Iraq’s freedom and the formation of their new nation and Constitution is remarkably swift.
Perhaps we could have just a little more patience while these courageous people work out their differences and finish their draft to be ratified later this fall.
