This is a local Church on the North side of Lake Pontchartrain in an area that has not received much coverage in the national news. We have close ties with a staff member at this church and know they will be honest and fair in the distribution of any funds they receive. You may attempt to call the Church using their contact page linked above if you would like to help in some other manner. It is extremely difficult to even get through on the phone.
These people are devastated as many have lost their homes and businesses. They have no utilities, no income, or food. Water must be boiled or treated before it is drinkable. They don’t expect power to be restored for at least four to six weeks. It is very difficult to even make contact with the residents in the area.
We have chosen this as our way of helping those devastated by this terrible tragedy.
Others in the blogosphere have chosen national charities, and you can find a list of those at Instapundit. Hugh Hewitt quotes Col. Austen Bay with the following:
“There’s no America out there except America to respond to it. We’ve got to do it ourselves.”
And Winston Churchill with this:
“We have not journeyed across the centuries, across the oceans, across the mountains, across the prairies, because we are made of sugar candy.”
Please dig deep and give. Then give again. Then give until you really feel it.
We will update as the day progresses.
Update: 1:30 CDT
We have joined with The Truth Laid Bare Katrina Relief Page, to help in the effort of encouraging more donations. Please visit their contribution logging page to help us track donations to the various charities and amounts.

[…] For regular readers of this blog, we have been asked by Grace Community Chapel of St. Peters, Missouri, and Trinity Evangelical Free Church of Covington, Louisiana, to use this site to post information until such time as normal communication becomes reliable and stable. First of all, for those who have evacuated from the North Shore area and are hungry for information from home, and secondly for people living in out state areas who want to help those in need to recover from this disaster. Regular blogging on political news, and commentary will resume in a few days. Our thanks goes out to Slidell Hurricane Damage Blog for his link which points people here to donate to the North Shore Disaster Relief Fund. […]
