Hurricane Katrina North Shore Disaster Fund Update #27

This is the twenty-seventh update for the Hurricane Katrina disaster relief fund for the Lake Pontchartrain North Shore. This includes the Covington, Abita Springs, Mandeville, and Slidell, Louisiana area.

We have some additional pictures of the work performed by Grace Team 1 from Grace Community Chapel of St. Peters, MO as they ministered through Trinity Evangelical Free Church of Covington, LA.

We had previously published some pictures of a huge tree that was taken down from a home in Covington, LA here. These pictures are of the same home and gives a better indication of the size of the oak tree that was blown against the building during the hurricane.

Here is another tree down on that home but from a different angle.

The team members were extremely careful to take the tree down one section at a time.

As even a casual observer can see, the destruction and devastation left by Hurricane Katrina has left many homeowners with debris everywhere. The city will haul away the debris but only after the homeowner has the trees taken down from the house and cut up in small chunks. Most insurance does not cover the cost of cutting down the trees and carrying it to the street edge, and many can’t afford to pay to have it done.

That is precisely where Grace Team 1 stepped in to help, and performed such a great ministry to many people in the North Shore area. Those affected have enough on their minds trying to get families back together again, utilities functioning, and getting the roof repaired, if that was all that was damaged.

Grace Team 2 is now forming and plans to be in the North Shore area again at the end of October.

We have a separate page with several more photos of the ministry performed by Grace Team 1, as they worked through Trinity Evangelical Free Church which can be seen by clicking here. There are also some photos of Castle Rock Church and the surrounding neighborhood in New Orleans, along with photos of some damage done in Slidell, LA.

As always, if you would like to contribute to the combined efforts of this blog and Grace Community Chapel of St. Peters, MO, in raising money for Trinity Evangelical Free Church in Covington, LA, to be distributed locally to the Lake Pontchartrain North Shore area, you will find detailed donation information by clicking here.

The photos published in this post, our previous post, and the separate page, are owned by Julie Carlson. They were taken via Grace Community Chapel Team 1, through joint ministry with Trinity Evangelical Free Church and are used here by permission.
