Theocratic Rule

Sunday, June 12th, 2005

There has been a lot said in the Main Stream Media (MSM for short) in recent weeks about a Theocracy. Many on the left fear the evangelical right so much, they feel the need to sound an alarm, even if not nescessary. The end result for them is to sound like the guy who cried wolf one too many times. No one pays attention anymore.

There should be some clarification on this subject, and since it is Sunday, perhaps this might be an appropriate time to do so.

In order to have a Theocracy, you would need to have God, or a god directly in charge of the government, commanding every single facet of society from the seat of power. Such is not the case here in the US. There are some who would like to see a government here with laws which mirror Old Testament laws, but their numbers (Read the rest of the story below the fold...)

Be Sober, Be Vigilant

Sunday, June 5th, 2005

“Be sober, be vigilant;” (KJV 1 Peter 5:8 ) The Apostle Peter admonishes us to always be aware of what is going on in the world around us. In the text, following the words above, he tells us why we should be sober and vigilant. We won’t go into the entire passage today, only to say that there is a very good reason for being wary and alert. It is sometimes extremely difficult to know if what you are reading and hearing is truth or not. We have written about it extensively here.

In the next few years, there will be monumental decisions made by our governemt, elected representatives, and voters; it would behoove us to follow the advice of the Apostle above. We have a couple of examples to present today which might give us cause to reflect on what we see and hear over (Read the rest of the story below the fold...)

To Honor The Fallen

Sunday, May 29th, 2005

We found a story in the Washington Times, which we would like to relay to you here. The story is entitled, Empty table honors all U.S. MIAs, POWs. It is a great story, and it promotes what might be a new tradition in the US. It could be used to honor our fallen heroes in a way which will help our children remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice to insure our freedom and democracy today.

Our thanks to Bruce Smith, who originally wrote it for the Associated Press. Here is the story:

“MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. — The table is set with a white tablecloth, a black napkin and white candle, and a plate with only a slice of lemon and salt. An empty chair leans against the table.

The tradition, little known to the general public, of setting an empty table (Read the rest of the story below the fold...)

Read The Directions

Sunday, May 15th, 2005

So often we travel through life just drifting, flowing with the wind wherever it blows. We then reach a point where we ask ourselves why are we here? Who am I?. What am I supposed to do with my life? What is my purpose?

Did you ever buy a new car and actually read the owner’s manual? Did you ever buy a new TV and read the user’s manual? How about a computer? Did you ever read the manual that comes with a computer?

You would be amazed at the amount of information contained in the manuals mentioned above. If you want to know how to set the radio properly in your car, look it up in the owner’s manual. If you want to know how to hook up your TV to your surround sound system, just look it up in the user’s manual.

We remember a story that our (Read the rest of the story below the fold...)

A Virtuous Woman

Sunday, May 8th, 2005

The writer of Proverbs says the following of a virtuous woman:

10 ¶ Who may make discovery of a woman of virtue? For her price is much higher than jewels.
11 The heart of her husband has faith in her, and he will have profit in full measure.
12 She does him good and not evil all the days of her life.
13 She gets wool and linen, working at the business of her hands.
14 She is like the trading-ships, getting food from far away.
15 She gets up while it is still night, and gives meat to her family, and their food to her servant-girls.
16 After looking at a field with care, she gets it for a price, planting a vine-garden with the profit of her work.
17 She puts a band of (Read the rest of the story below the fold...)

Do You Know Where Your Children Are?

Sunday, April 17th, 2005

I found this article at Red State Rant and am going to use most of it for our post today. It is entitled, Pardon My Sensationalism, and written by Jarhead, a Marine, (I’m not sure whether he is still in the service, or is now out, but once a Marine, always a Marine.) who posts there sometimes. Here is most of what he wrote:

“A couple of days ago I had the unfortunate task of taking part in a search for a 4 year old boy that went missing from his home. My role in the search was that of a minor player on the periphery of events, canvassing a nearby neighborhood, even though I’d been instructed to remain in service for other calls. I just couldn’t stay away.

Here is the story from our local paper, the Gainesville (Ga) Times.

While the newspaper (Read the rest of the story below the fold...)

The ABC’s of Agriculture

Sunday, April 3rd, 2005

Well it is Spring time in Missouri, and the farmers are in the field plowing the ground in preparation for planting. You have got to love farmers. They are some of the hardest working people in the world. They work long hard hours in the fields, and then patiently wait for the rains to come and the sun to shine allowing them to harvest a crop.

These men and women are patient, trusting, and persevering. They embody the ABC’s of Agriculture.

“7 Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap.
8 For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life.
9 And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap (Read the rest of the story below the fold...)

He Is Risen!

Sunday, March 27th, 2005

He Is Risen Indeed!

Christ the Lord is risen today, conquering death, and giving us hope for a life beyond the grave. Hallelujah!

The poet and Minister of the Gospel, Charles Wesley has written:

“Christ, the Lord, is risen today, Alleluia!
Sons of men and angels say, Alleluia!
Raise your joys and triumphs high, Alleluia!
Sing, ye heavens, and earth, reply, Alleluia!

Love’s redeeming work is done, Alleluia!
Fought the fight, the battle won, Alleluia!
Lo! the Sun’s eclipse is over, Alleluia!
Lo! He sets in blood no more, Alleluia!

Vain the stone, the watch, the seal, Alleluia!
Christ hath burst the gates of hell, Alleluia!
Death in vain forbids His rise, Alleluia!
Christ hath opened paradise, Alleluia!

Lives again our glorious King, Alleluia!
Where, O death, is now thy sting? Alleluia!
Once He died our souls to save, Alleluia!
Where thy victory, O grave? Alleluia!

Soar we now where Christ hath led, Alleluia!
Following our exalted Head, Alleluia!
Made like Him, like Him we rise, Alleluia!
Ours the cross, the grave, the skies, Alleluia!

Hail, the Lord of earth and heaven, Alleluia!
Praise to Thee by both be given, Alleluia!
Thee we greet triumphant now, Alleluia!
Hail, the resurrection day, Alleluia!

King of glory, Soul of bliss, Alleluia!
Everlasting life is this, Alleluia!
Thee to know, Thy power to prove, Alleluia!
Thus to sing and thus to love, Alleluia!”

It Is Finished

Friday, March 25th, 2005

Tetelestai, is a transliteration of the Greek word used by Jesus as he hung on the cross dying. “It is finished” (John 19:30 ASV), and the same word used in verse 28, “all things were now accomplished,” are some of the most wonderful words ever composed in human language. Past perfect indicative is the form of the Greek verb above, which according to Kenneth Wuest, refers to “His work of procuring for lost sinners a salvation from sin through the blood of His Cross. The entire sense is, ‘It was finished and as a result it is forever done.”

In the grand splendor of God’s great plan for mankind, there are much larger implications in that one simple word tetelastai. The wheels had been set in motion to finally crush the serpent’s head from so long ago in the garden of Eden. From this point forward in all of human (Read the rest of the story below the fold...)

Discovery of Truth

Sunday, March 20th, 2005

What is truth?

Truth has had many faces put on it in the past. The problem arises in discovering real truth. How does one go about finding the truth concerning any subject, and how can we be certain what we have found is real?

Truth, concerning the two major topics on everyone’s mind these days is political truth, and religious truth. After all, one nescessarily follows the other. If one has a liberal viewpoint concerning religion, that individual will, more often than not, have a liberal viewpoint concerning politics. By the same token, one who holds a conservative view of religion, will as well hold a conservative viewpoint on politics. There are occasions however, when one is inconsistent and holds a conservative veiwpoint on one and a liberal viewpoint on the other.

As to the first question, how do we go about finding the truth? Many people hold the (Read the rest of the story below the fold...)

When Lives Are Changed

Sunday, March 13th, 2005

A reader sent the following in an email, and since we are heading into the Easter Season, it is appropriate to post it here today. It follows very closely the historical record, found here, but is easier to read as written.

It is entitled, WHO AM I?

“I was born in 1725, and I died 1807.

The only godly influence in my life,as far back as I can remember, was my mother, whom I had for only seven years. When she left my life through death, I was virtually an orphan.

My father remarried, sent me to a strict military school, where the severity of discipline almost broke my back. I couldn’t stand it any longer, and I left in rebellion at the age of ten.

One year later, deciding that I would never enter formal education again, I became a
seaman apprentice, hoping somehow to (Read the rest of the story below the fold...)

With Our Eyes Wide Open

Sunday, March 6th, 2005

Do you remember when every little town had privately owned businesses on the main street, and the owners almost always lived upstairs over the business?

There used to be a story told of a business owner living upstairs over his business who heard a burglar one night breaking into his store. He tried to rouse his wife, who was slumbering next to him to go downstairs and scare the burglar away. He couldn’t raise his wife, but didn’t want to get out of his nice warm bed either. He thought to himself, that maybe someone else had heard, and the police would arrive and protect his property from the burglar. He heard another noise from downstairs, but still didn’t want to leave the nice comfortable surroundings to go down and meet the burglar. He thought to himself that if he just would wait a little while longer, the whole thing (Read the rest of the story below the fold...)
