Patience Please

Friday, August 26th, 2005

We would encourage everyone to have a little patience concerning the Constitution process in Iraq. Many among the MSM would have us believe the entire process is decaying and Iraq will soon erupt into civil war. We would hope that such would not be the case.

If you want to know what is really happening in Iraq, Michael Yon: Online Magazine is a must read. His article, Gates of Fire, is the story of America’s bravest and finest, being reported on by a brave and fine man to counter all the misinformation we receive on a daily basis.

Hugh Hewitt writes in, Michael Yon and the Duties of Civilians, the following:

“Because courage is the most hypnotic of virtues, and Yon is a courageous man reporting on the deeds of other courageous men. I quote Thucydides in my review of (Read the rest of the story below the fold...)

A Move Toward Democracy

Thursday, August 25th, 2005

The Wall Street Opinion Journal has a great editorial outlining the positive points of the Iraq’s new draft Constitution which should be approved sometime later today. In their article, Iraq’s Federalist Papers , they wrote the following:

“As for the unambiguously good news, there is both federalism and the oil-sharing formula. The draft constitution describes Iraq as “a democratic, federal, republican system”–an organizational structure that should be familiar to Americans. Some Sunni representatives have objected strongly, saying a federal structure risks the dissolution of the Iraqi state. But the reality is that federalism in one form or another was inevitable long before the constitutional talks began.

The Kurds, for starters, are not about to give up the autonomy they have enjoyed since the mid-’90s under cover of no fly zones (and would themselves dissolve the Iraqi state by secession were concessions on this matter not granted). (Read the rest of the story below the fold...)

Why No To Gonzales

Tuesday, July 5th, 2005

Why should conservatives oppose an appointment of Attorney General Alberto Gonzales to the Supreme Court?

First, in a Texas Supreme Court case, In re Jane Doe, then Justice Priscilla Owen who dissented to the majority ruling, had the following to say concerning that opinion:

“…this Court has usurped the role of the trial court, reweighed the evidence, and drawn its own conclusions. The Court has forsaken any semblance of abiding by principles of appellate review.”

and she further stated:

“It is the Court who has acted irresponsibly in this case by summarily rendering judgment without careful consideration of the record, by manufacturing reasons to support its actions, and by ignoring the evidence that supports the trial court’s judgment.

* * * * *

I dissent from the Court’s judgment in this case and from the manner in which this appeal has been resolved. The Court has disregarded the (Read the rest of the story below the fold...)

Follow The Path

Saturday, July 2nd, 2005

“Follow the path, Mr. Masoudi. Walk where the great men before you have walked.” Professor William Hundert, The Emperor’s Club, 2002

There is a whole host of writers and commentator’s speculating and offering opinions on who will be the next Associate Justice on The United States Supreme Court. Most are offering great advice based upon political objectives and achievements. There are some from the left who offer no advice at all, except to obstruct anyone who will not fit in their particular ideological system. There are those on the right who have worked tirelessly to arrive at this moment in our nation’s history. Today we want to look at some articles which have great relevance pertaining to the choice the President will soon make on who will replace Justice Sandra Day O’Connor.

We begin with Nine Tips for Bush on the Supreme Court Vacancy, written by (Read the rest of the story below the fold...)

Support And Defend The Constitution

Tuesday, May 24th, 2005

What follows is the Oath of Office taken by every Senator prior to being seated in the Senate of the United States of America.

“I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter: So help me God.”

The source of the oath is taken from the Senate website found here.

These seven Republican Senators broke their oath of office and defied the constitution, when signing onto the “compromise deal”. The States they represent are in parentheses.

    John McCain (AR)
    John Warner (VA)
    Mike DeWine (OH)

The Date Has Been Set

Tuesday, May 17th, 2005

The “paper of record”, the New York Times, has pronounced a detonation of the “constitutional - nuclear - Byrd” option to take place tomorrow. In an article published today entitled, Senate Leaders Break Off Talks on Judicial Nominees, Carl Hulse states the following:

“Dr. Frist and Mr. Reid have been exploring similar approaches in proposals and counterproposals over a few weeks. Dr. Frist now intends to advance two nominees, two state Supreme Court justices, Priscilla R. Owen of Texas and Janice Rogers Brown of California, on Wednesday.”

CBS News also indicates the showdown is imminent. Their article is here.

Finally, Radio Blogger thinks it will happen tomorrow as well if the Times story above is true. See his comments here.

If the day of reckoning has finally come and you have not made your opinions known to your Senators. DUH! (Read the rest of the story below the fold...)

The Right To Own And Bear Arms

Wednesday, April 27th, 2005

The Second Amendment to the Constitution of the United States, is something every eighth grader in this country has read and understood in order to be graduated into high school. At least that was the requirement just a few years ago.

It is not diffuicult to read or understand. Anyone with an even cursory knowledge of the English language, and at least some knowlege of American History can understand the obvious meaning of the Second Amendment, which by the way was number two in the “Bill of Rights” to the Constitution. The ten “Bill of Rights” were ratifed by the states and became effective December 15, 1791.

The Second Amendment states,

“A well regulated Militia, being nescessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed”.

The opinions of what the Militia constists of, has become so (Read the rest of the story below the fold...)

Time To Push The Button On The Constitutional Option

Wednesday, April 13th, 2005

Law.Com has an article entitled, Two Groups Break Ranks on Changing Filibuster Rules Over Blocked Judges. This is the kind of article that should send shivers down the spine of every conservative in this country. It is proof positive, that if given enough time, and constant repetition, the MSM will have their desired effect on the public. It is also sufficient proof that it is time to push the button on the Constitutional option concerning judicial nominees.

Below are the links to the day’s stories on filibustering judicial nominees.

Here is a Red State article entitled, The Filibuster Fight: Frist vrs. Reid, Schumer, et al, a Confirm Them article entitled, A Decision Possible Within Two Weeks, and finally a Daly Thoughts article with accurate numbers representing Bush’s confirmations, entitled, Judicial Confirmation Statistics.

Delay no further on pushing the Constitutional-Byrd-Nuclear button. We need no further Senate Democrat palavering, and it’s publication in the Main Stream Media.

The Message Is Getting Out

Wednesday, March 16th, 2005

In a press release today, The Judicial Confirmation Network reveals in a survey conducted March 6-9, 2005 entitled, Overwhelming Majority Favor Senate Vote on Judges…, the message is finally getting out to the people. The results of the survey belies the rhetoric being put forth by Senate Democrats. The survey also indicates they will pay again at the polls in 2006 and 2008 if they continue on their self-destructive path.

Here are some excerpts:

“Highlights of the survey include:

* Eighty-two percent of voters agree that “if a nominee for any federal judgeship is well-qualified, he or she deserves an up or down vote on the floor of the Senate.
* By 78 to 12 percent, voters agree that Senators have a constitutional duty to vote on judicial nominations.
