Electronic Broadcast Flag

Tuesday, June 21st, 2005

The Electronic Frontier Foundation, has issued an action alert concerning a possible attempt to sneak in a last minute amendment during the sub-committee on Commerce, Science, and Justice meeting today, and again to the full committee on Thursday, to re-animate the MPAA’s broadcast flag and burn it into law.

What does the broadcast flag do?

“The Broadcast Flag cripples any device capable of receiving over-the-air digital broadcasts. It gives Hollywood movie studios a permanent veto over how members of the American public use our televisions. It forces American innovators to beg the FCC for permission before adding new features to TV. “

There are less than 48 hours left to see that the amendment is opposed. You can join in with the EFF, and take action by clicking here.

Or you may contact your Senator directly using the information below.

Monday, March 21st, 2005

John Fund of the Wall Street Opinion Journal, has picked up on the story first broke in the New York Post, last Thursday which we posted on here. The entire article can be read at the link above. The following is an excerpt of Mr. Fund’s article:

“The successful stealth campaign by the eight liberal foundations means we now have to live in the Brave New World of McCain-Feingold. Bradley Smith, a Federal Election Commission member, made news this month by warning that bloggers could face federal regulation because a federal judge had thrown out their legal exemption from campaign finance regulations. The Internet has been (Read the rest of the story below the fold...)

The Marketplace of Ideas

Monday, February 21st, 2005

So Paul stood up in front of the Areopagus and said, “Men of Athens, I see that you are very religious in every way.” Acts 17:22 (ISV) As you can see from the above quotation, that the Apostle Paul went to where the men of Athens gathered for discussion on topics of importance in their ancient world. You can read further about what different kinds of people were there when he made this statement, and you can read further about his conclusions in the rest of the chapter.

The question that must be asked in our day is, “Where is the marketplace of ideas in the 21st century”? The new modern marketplace of ideas can be found on the internet at sites such as this one. Does that mean that this site will become a forum for debate. The answer is no. If you had read the “About the PCB” (Read the rest of the story below the fold...)
